It’s lonely at the top! As a leader, you are expected to be all-knowing and infallible. You are not always able to discuss the things that REALLY matter to you with your staff. So, who do you confide in and bounce ideas off? What are the blockages that stop you from achieving your goals? What are your goals and when did you last review them? How do you stay focussed?
Membership of The PortfolioExec Business Lounge will allow you to access other senior leaders’ experience, knowledge and wisdom, and share your own, helping to develop the expertise and proficiency of everyone in the room.
With 5 – 8 businesses in The Lounge, challenges and successes can be given the time they require. Our professional facilitators will ensure the Lounge is a safe, relaxed environment where you can be open and honest. The discussions at each session will inform the next month’s agenda. You will have up to 2 seats in the Lounge, should you wish to bring in any of your managers to a session. Membership of the Lounge allows you access to a range of benefits.
For our first Business Lounge, we are offering a bursary for the first 3 months to each member who signs up for 12 months. Apply via our simple application process:- Contact Us
Are you running a project? How do you see the bigger picture while still keeping an eye on the detail? How do you manage both internal and external stakeholders? Are the desired outcomes clear? Whatever stage of a project you are currently in, this 1-hour session will provide you with guidance and useful strategies to help you manage all the different elements of your project and bring them together to achieve the results you desire.
Project management is about breaking down the overall project into a series of separate tasks, each of which is the responsibility of a named person. These are fitted together into a timetable with individual deadlines, all of which must be carefully monitored to achieve success. What could possibly go wrong?!
Having qualified as an accountant, Richard spent a year as a student doing a post-graduate Diploma in Management Studies. This gave him a wide range of skills, allowing him to become a lecturer, a project accountant, a financial systems Regulator, treasurer of a Building Preservation Trust, a charity spending £12m, a senior NHS manager, and an IT consultant. All enjoyable roles, which allowed him to see how project management can be made to work.

When a manufacturing or distribution company wants to start, or improve, online selling, they’re adding a new member to the sales team – the website. Unfortunately, websites will do *exactly* what you tell them to do. In B2B sales, we have contracts where we’ve agreed pricing, shipping, product details and so on, and that makes B2B very different from B2C. Displaying the right photos, appealing to the purchasing staff, and ensuring you don’t lose money on shipping – it takes a range of activities to sell successfully online. John will use examples from past projects to talk about how to avoid the pitfalls and maintain your margins.
For over 30 years, John has practised building software nearly every day, and explaining it in language everyone can understand. The past 15 years focused on B2B eCommerce, after building a platform which powered over 1500 promotional merchandise websites. Whether it’s linking websites to in-house systems, or name-dropping companies he’s worked with on behalf of clients, like Lloyds TSB, ASDA, Rolls Royce and Goldman Sachs, he wants to spend time making eCommerce simpler, making software more reliable and easier to understand, and building trust between users and their computer systems.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday 19th January, at 10 am.

- Why do customers (and ‘Sales’) matter? ‘Nothing around here happens until somebody sells something’
- Have your customers gone or changed since COVID? Will they return? How do you find out?
- ‘Everyone’ is never your customer. How do you ‘divide and conquer’ your market?
- Beyond ‘Price’: What is your ‘Value Proposition’ – and how can you identify it?
- Things are changing even faster right now – how do you use Design Thinking to stay agile and relevant?
- How does all this relate to ‘Sales and Marketing’ – as we once knew them?
